Capitol Hill Block Party Artist Panel Series 2019 – Seattle Weekly

The Capitol Hill Block Party Artist Panel Series 2019 is free (no festival wristband required), all-ages, and takes place from 11 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Riveter community workspace in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.

The Artist Panel Series is an annual event, hosted by Lo Flux Media and Nadamucho.com that is designed to connect local artists with business leaders, influencers and media. Kelly Fleek, owner/founder of Lo Flux Media, and member of the Seattle based electro-rock band The Spider Ferns moderates the panel. A networking brunch and beverages are provided by Big Mario’s Pizza and the CHBP.

As Seattle undergoes a rapid amount of growth and the change that comes with it, it’s more important than ever for members of the local music community to come together with local businesses and government to build relationships and discuss strategies for success.

Panel topics for this year’s event include “Strategies for Band Management: How to know when you’re ready for a label, and what labels are looking for in 2019.” Panelists for part one of our series include Megan Jasper of Sub Pop Records; Abbie Gobeli, KEXP DJ and manager of the band ACTORS; Ben Jenkins of Killroom Records; and Shannon Hemmet of bands ACTORS and LEATHERS.

Panel two topics include “Mental Health at Home and on the Road.” Topics will include how to address and move beyond conflating identity with work and achievements, where to find mental health resources, and self-care at home and on the road. Panelists for the second hour include Evie Cooke, KEXP DJ; Andrew Vait of bands SISTERS and Little Wins; Daniel Lyon of the band Spirit Award; Whitney Monge’, musician and board member of the PNW chapter of the Recording Academy/Grammy’s; and Jordan Leonard of the PNW chapter of the Recording Academy/Grammy’s who will be speaking on behalf of MusiCares, a nonprofit that provides health care and other services to musicians and artists.
