The 2010s: Counting down Seattle’s biggest sports stories of the decade – The Athletic

With The Athletic’s celebration of the 2010s coming to a close, it seemed only appropriate to look back at the biggest stories from the past decade of Seattle sports, but while putting together this exercise it became clear just how many marquee moments the city experienced over the past 10 years.

So how’d we narrow things down? A blue-ribbon panel of writers was asked to rank their top five from a list of about 30 options in order to pick a top 10. It wasn’t easy.

We ended up not having spots on the list for iconic moments (Marshawn Lynch’s “Beast Quake”), major hires (Pete Carroll and John Schneider with the Seahawks, Garth Lagerwey and Brian Schmetzer with the Sounders, Jen Cohen and Mike Hopkins at Washington and Mike Leach at Washington State), huge moments for the area’s college teams (Washington State’s Minshew Mania, Washington women’s basketball’s Kelsey Plum-led run to the Final Four and UW…
