Wednesday morning traffic troubles: Crashes slow commute on EB I-90, SB Highway 99, Tacoma Narrows Bridge – Seattle Times

Crashes led to significant slowdowns for Puget Sound commuters in a few spots Wednesday morning.

Collisions on Interstate 90 near the Mount Baker Tunnel, on Highway 16 at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and on southbound Highway 99 at Ward Street all caused extended delays and backups during the commute, according to state and local transportation departments.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) urged people to find alternate routes to the Eastside in a 9:30 a.m. Twitter post that warned of a collision blocking the two left lanes and gave no estimated time for reopening.

On Highway 99, all three southbound lanes were briefly blocked by fire trucks while Seattle Fire Department crews extricated a person from a vehicle at the crash scene. The person was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, Seattle Fire tweeted.

The highway is expected to fully reopen soon. In the meantime, drivers have been advised to find alternate routes.

In Tacoma, a collision in the eastbound lanes on the west end of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge blocked multiple lanes and caused miles-long backups.
