XFL Seattle Dragons target 30000 crowd in home opener – SportBusiness

The XFL’s Seattle Dragons are hoping to attract a 30,000-plus crowd for the team’s home opener at CenturyLink Field this weekend, having already sold 25,000 tickets.

On February 10, the Dragons made an extra 1,000 seats available, which were snapped up in just 20 minutes.

“We’re going to keep it going; the demand has really gone through the roof since Saturday, and we’re really excited about it,” Dragons president Ryan Gustafson told the Seattle Times. “It’s an exciting start. Seattle fans love their football. They are excited about this team and we’re grateful about that.”

Seattle leads the XFL in season-ticket sales, Gustafson added.

The 72,000-capacity CenturyLink Field, which is also the home venue of the National Football League’s Seattle Seahawks and Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders, is going cashless starting from this weekend.

During the start-up spring-season league’s opening weekend, the four XFL games averaged attendances of around 17,000.
